GRAPHIC TUTORIAL:

Hey guys! Recently I’ve been seeing a lot of graphics like these [x] [x], so I’ve decided to give it a try and to show you how I did it. Enjoy!

In this tutorial I’ll be showing you how I made the first edit (the blue one) because the second one is basically identical and it’s less complex.

So, first of all select an image you like (I used this one), crop it, color it as you like or add a psd, sharpen it (if you want) and then remove the background. Since you need to get rid of the background you have to click on REFINE EDGE and set the OUTPUT to NEW LAYER [x].

Now you should have something like this:

image

Once you’ve done this go to File > New and create a new file. I made mine 540x680px but you can make it any size you like, it’s up to you :)

Set a background color you like and then drag your image into the new file (I placed it in the middle). Now click on the horizontal Type Tool and type in the text you want. I used the font Arial Bold Italic (50pt), but then again you can choose the font you like the most.

I typed in “Healy” (Matthew’s surname in this case) but if you wanna get the same result you see in my graphic, you’ll have to create a text layer for each “line” of letters instead that just one for the whole name. After you’ve done that you’ll have to move each text layer under the other. Rulers (CTRL or CMD + R) can help you to see if you’re moving them correctly.

Ok so here comes the “hard” part: the flowers.

I couldn’t find many floral textures I liked, so I just googled things like “flowers pattern”, “floral textures” and such. It took me ages to find some patterns I liked, so herehere, here and also [x] [x] are some floral textures if you want to save time :)

Once you’ve found the textures you like and that would fit your edit you have to start removing the background, just as you did before for the main image. You can use the whole flower or you can just take bits of it, depending on what you like better.

BEFORE YOU REMOVE THE BACKGROUND make sure that you like the color of the flower. I had to increase the brightness/change the curves or add a psd to some of them to make them more “suitable” for my edit. Then I flattened the image (Layer > Flatten Image) and I started removing the background in order to obtain a new layer with just the flower.

AFTER I removed the background I made sure that the size of the flower was right, because some of the pictures were like 1280x1280 and my edit was way smaller than that. If the size is not right you have to resize the flower. After that I went on and sharpened the image.

Now your patterns/textures should look pretty much like this:

When you’re satisfied with your flowers just drag them into your graphic and place them as you want. I placed them mostly near the lower side of the main image to cover up the fact that it was cut, but you can do it as you want. I placed some in between the text layers, so that it would slightly cover a part of the text as well [x].

The problem of doing this is that sometimes the texture ends up covering a huge part of the text layer, like in this case:

image

In order to avoid that you have to select the texture layer that’s covering your text, set the opacity to 60-70% so that you can see both the flower and the text, click on the ERASER tool, select a small brush and erase the part of the texture that’s standing on your text layer, then set the opacity back to 100%.

You can erase every part or you can erase just some parts, you can do it however you like. I think the hardest part is arranging them in a good way, so make sure you like the way you’re placing them before you delete some parts!

If you want to add that circular thing on the head you just have to download THIS brush, create a new layer, place it UNDER the main image and just add the brush according to the size that best fits your edit :)

If you also wanna add those white lines on the edit you have to create a new layer and place it ABOVE the main picture, select the hard brush, set the size to 1px and just draw the line following the ones of your image.

When you’re happy with your edit just save it and you’re done! :)
